Goldilocks and the stuffy nose

Today was boring/awful. I am completely over my cold besides the stuffy nose that is quite inconvenient in many different ways. I also feel like Goldilocks, for the reason that I had my hair in braids today for play practice and once I took them out it is now all wavy and curly.

My new puppy, Chewbacca, whom I haven’t yet posted about is doing great. We have a little bit of difficulty deciding who will take him out due to the freezing weather. Also, he is so small (he is a shih-tzu) that he cannot climb up and down the deck steps like Maya, so we have to carry him down the steps and stand there watching him until he goes to the bathroom. Then we pick him up and carry him back up the stairs and into the house.

I officially have to say: 18 DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!

I have made a small list of things that I want that fit into a certain price range. This year I thought smart about my list, opposed to the childish: I want all these extremely expensive things like an iPod touch! A cellphone! And NICE electric piano! A flat screen tv in my room! Yes, I was one of those kids…I’m sure we all were sometime. But this year was different, I actually asked for reasonable things. Here is my list:

A 25$ gift card to Books A Million

A 25$ iTunes gift card

Hood (a book) in paperback

A set of roller ball pens (colored)

Some candy for my stocking (including jellybeans and Hershey Special Dark chocolate bar)

Reckless by Cornelia Funke

This is basically my christmas list for this year. I can’t remember anything else on it, so we’ll leave it at this. I do want a Muller jersey, but that’s a little bit expensive….I also want the newest iPod touch 32 gig, but that’s a little expensive too….maybe even a….wait, that’s a little bit expensive….forget those!

Maybe next year…

I must admit, I have only watched one christmas movie so far and that was yesterday while I was laying around sick. The movie was called: Farewell, Mr. Kringle. It was cute and predictable and it didn’t help that our recording skipped ten minutes of it. :( Whatev, I still liked it.

Anyway…it’s getting late and I want to sleep. Well. Yes. I said it.

Over and Out.

The Good, the Bad and the…Ugly?

Well, the trip was good. Actually, it was great! And I have so much to tell about it. The after is bad…I’m sick. BLECH! the Ugly? Is there an ugly? I’m still trying to figure that out.

The Good- Well, my team didn’t win, but we did good and I got some good buzzes in, so it turned out alright. I was fairly happy with that. We stopped at the mall food court for dinner while traveling and then did a little bit of shopping in Barnes and Noble. :D My favorite store. I really enjoyed myself. A friends of mine walked around the store telling people about Jesus. It felt really great. that night at the hotel, we did the same thing. Me and two of my friends talked to the lady working at the front desk and she accepted everything we had to say. In the morning, we figured out that that lady, who’s name was Abbey, had talked to the lady with the shift after her and how amazing it was and stuff. We then heard the new worker talking to her mom on the phone about Jesus. It was great to know how God worked so fast to help these three people come to know Him.

The Bad- I have a cold. A bad cold. UGH! I hate colds.

The Ugly- ??? IS this possible? Well, that’s all i have to say in one post….yeah….

Over and Out.

Bible Quiz Team (continued)

Where did I leave off? I think I’m at number 3.

3. The Judge. This is what our set of buzzers is called. (Through the wiring it calculates who pressed the button first and it makes a buzzer sound.) There are eight buzzers attatched to each “Judge,” four on each side. There are 8 lights across the box that sits between the two teams. Four people from each team sit at the four seats on their teams side and pick up a buzzer. The lights are colored as such: four green and four red. The buzzers have a little button on the top of a handle that you push when you think you can finish the question and give the answer.

4. The questions. Each quiz has 20 questions in it, each question worth 20 points if you get it right. There are five extra questions at the end of the quiz, used if the quiz master messes up a question. The questions are one the verses that you are supposed to memorize. Here is an example: The verse I’m going to base this question off of is Hebrews 1:1.

Hebrews 1:1- God who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

(This is NKJV btw.) Now an easy question for this verse would be:

Q: Who spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets?

A: God.

Easy? No. Actually, you can buzz in at any point in the question. You have thirty seconds to finish the question and give your answer. If you don’t, well then…you don’t get the points.

5. The scoring system. Each question that you or another member on your team answers correctly, your team is awarded twenty points. If you buzz in and answer the question wrong you get minus ten points. You can get a team bonus if three people on your team buzz in and get the answer correctly. The bonus is worth 10 points. If you get a foul, which is if you talk during the question or at a time you’re not supposed to, or if you make hand motions or mouth motions to any person on your team or the other team. The first foul your team gets is a warning, but the second one and so on, you get 10 points subtracted from your team.

6. Throwovers. Your team gets a throwover if the other team misses a question (gets it wrong.) The only way it can go to you is let’s say you’re sitting in the third seat and the person on the opposite team is sitting in the third seat and gets it wrong. (This process is slightly confusing.) If you get it correct then your team is awarded with 10 points. If not, then you remain at the same amount of points.

7. Quizzing out and getting frozen. Quizzing out means that you’ve buzzed in correctly as many times that is aloud. Then, you leave your seat at the table and return to where the subs are sitting at with your coach. The amount of correct buzzes aloud are five. If you quiz out with out getting any questions wrong, then your team is awarded with an extra ten points. Now, getting frozen, that’s a completely different matter. To get frozen, you have to answer three questions wrong. When you are frozen, you are not aloud to buzz or move from your seat. It is very sad when that happens.

8. The competitions. There are three quiz competitions a year, where your church (the quiz team, not the whole church) gets to drive to the location of the competition and compete against other churches’ quiz teams. The tournaments are round robin. Each team quizzes six times during the day to determine the winner. Two of the competitions are over the weekends and at the same place every year. Chicago in December and Michigan in April (sometimes March.) The biggest trip of the year is in June, and you go for a week. This year the trip is to Portland, Oregon, so we have to take a plane ride instead of a bus.

9. The fun. Quizzing is a lot of fun. The buzzing in, the interacting with your friends and other churches, the bus rides, and most of all, memorizing the material.

I hope you enjoyed.

Over and Out.

YOU COULD WIN!!!

image

1. If you had to choose between living on a desert island or tropical rainforest for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

A desert island. Doesn’t island mean surrounded by water? I would rather be there than be in the rainforest, where there’s too many….yucky things….

2. What is your favorite music CD right now?

Peanut’s Christmas Soundtrack

3. If you were given the choice between wildflowers or roses - which would you pick?

Roses. White roses and yellow roses. Not red roses or pink roses.

4. How much do you like notebooks? Is it mild, or are you absolutely obsessed with them?

I am OBSESSED!!!! I use about 10 for many different things. (actually more…but we won’t go there..)

5. What is your biggest goal this winter?

I hate these hard questions…they’re just too hard…I guess I’d have to say….to be able to improve in my guitar playing

6. If you could change your hair however you wanted, what would you do?

I’d make it shorter. It’s too long right now.

7. Do you think Harry Potter is bad?

I don’t necessarily think it is bad. As long as you don’t get obsessed with it, or take into account that you “could” be a wizard or that Hogwarts is real.

8. Why do you think pink is a girls' color?

I don’t think pink is a girls color. I think it’s a neutral color. A lot of guys secretly like it and some even openly like it.

9. Would you be up to singing a solo in front of a thousand people?

No. This is due to the fact that I can’t really sing well….

10. What colors look best on you?

Purple. Blue. Green. Black.

11. If you had a different name, what would it be?

I’m not sure. I like the name Angela a lot, but I think if I had a different name I’d have to go with…Johanna. I’ve always like the name Johanna.

12. Do you like...

boots or sneakers?

Sneakers, By far. Yes. Absolutely.

flats or heels?

I hate heels, so therefore flats.

books or movies?

BOOKS! Books can give you so much more detail than a movie, so much more information, more plot…

purple or pink?

Purple

long hair or short hair?

Medium.

a best friend or a group of friends?

Can a group be two? or three? or is that too less?

ice cream or cake?

ice cream. Unless it’s ice cream cake. :D

plaid or polka dots?

both? I love plaid though…

Anyway, this is the tag that Stella has for us to do. In the contest you can win many different things, but the main thing to enter the contest to do is to get Stella more followers! She’s looking for eighty and at the time (I think it’s still at this number) she has 51. So, head to her blog, follow her and then do the tag! :D

Bible Quiz Team

This weekend, I will be in Chicago, well for at least 24 hours…(I think.)

On Friday morning, quite early I must add, I must meet at the church with my quiz team to board the bus to start our awesome, but long bus ride to Chicago. I will definitely enjoy myself by playing some Rook, other card games, just chatting with friends, listening to my iPod, playing Slap, and even the un-enjoyable, completing some extra credit work for my history class because I didn’t do very good on my recent test. :|

We normally reach the hotel by 7, but sometimes even later. Saturday we actually do our quizzing, which I will explain after this boring, dragging activity summary.

Saturday night we drive a little more to our next hotel. Then we drive home on Sunday with the same activities routine as the Friday bus ride.

Now I will explain the quizzing a little bit, or as best as I can without explaining it in person. ;)

There are many steps to the quizzing process. I’ll do them in step numbers.

1. Novice and Senior. There are two separate groups in quizzing. The first is the novice, where you start. You quiz in the novice for two years and then move onto the senior team. The main difference between the two is that the senior quizzers have to memorize more material then the novice. And…of course they have more experience.

2. Memorizing the Material. Every year this a new material that you are required to memorize. This year the material is Hebrews. I am on the Novice team, so I have to memorize Hebrews 1-9, 11.

I will finish this post tomorrow because I am going to bed now. :D

The World Between Worlds

Well, this is my book, not all of it of course, because that would be too much to post in a post. I will post a chapter a week (or at least try to) so that can keep me writing as well as you reading. Today I’m going to post the Prologue and first chapter.

PROLOGUE

“Well? Is everyone here?” the Sheriff called out, his rough voice spreading through the room filled of the worst evil villains yet.

Shouts of “ARGH” or “Come on, let’s get started!” filled the room in response. “Very good, let’s see if we can get this meeting underway, shall we?” he cleared his throat and continued, “We are gathered together at this time to form a group of ultimate power. A group that cannot be defeated. A group to bring down the World Between Worlds!”

Cheers of appraisal echoed off the walls, making the shouting seem louder. The Sheriff held up his hands and yelled loudly, “Quiet! Quiet! All of you know that if the World Between Worlds fall, every other world will collapse with it.”

A lady, adorned in white, stood making herself taller than everyone else in the room. Necks craned upwards to be able to watch her ghostly face as she spoke in a chilling voice, “We can finally destroy Narnia and Aslan with it!”

Then, a man, dressed like a pirate stood and shouted, “We can bring down Peter and those mangy excuses of lost boys!”

The cheering grew louder and louder, loud enough to burst eardrums. Again, the Sheriff raised his hands and the assembly quieted gradually. “Listen!” he shouted, “we cannot tell anyone about this! Stay quiet. We will meet morning at dusk to discuss battle plans and the exact details of work in this evil plan.”

The group slowly broke off, filing out into the World Between Worlds, with evil smirks covering their faces.

CHAPTER 1- Responsibility

Sunlight shone into the room, awaking Alex from his slumber. As he groggily opened his eyes, he stretched his arms out and lifted his covers from his body. Sliding his feet out of bed, he slowly stood up stretching his arms upward. Coughing lightly, he brought his arms down to his side and took a few steps across the hard wood floor until he reached two solid doors, hiding the inside of his closet from view. He reached for the knobs and pulled, revealing a wardrobe of many colors and styles. Running his fingers along the clothes, he pulled out a pair of jeans that were slightly faded. Tugging them on, he reached for his belt, which hung on the back of the door. He weaved it through his belt loops and buckled it tightly. After he finished buckling his pants, he made his way to his dresser where he kept his t-shirts. The only clothing that was not kept in his dresser was his pants and jackets which hung in his closet. He opened a drawer near the top and pulled out a plain red short-sleeve shirt. Pulling this down over his head, he traipsed back to his closet and slid a black sweatshirt off of a hangar. He slid his head and arms into the holes, covering up his t-shirt as he yanked it down. Kneeling, he reached under his jeans and pulled out a pair of black converse. He threw them across the room, so they landed in the middle of his surprisingly organized bedroom. Standing back up, he walked back to his dresser and pulled out a pair of clean socks. He then walked across his room and sat down, tugging his Converse onto his now socked feet. After Alexander was fully dressed, he made his way out of his bedroom and down the stairs into his kitchen.

As he reached the doorframe that led into the kitchen, he stuck his head in and glanced around to see if any of his family was already downstairs. The fridge door was ajar, but no one was present. Alex sighed and crossed the hard tile floor, shutting the fridge door quietly. Tiptoeing across the expanse of the kitchen, he entered through a second doorframe into his family room. His younger brother sat on the couch, shoving cereal into his mouth while watching re-runs on television.

Groaning, he stated, “Jared, you left the refrigerator door open…again. You need to try to be more responsible,” Jared tried to interrupt and give an excuse, but Alex kept talking, “We have to try to be the best kids we can with dad not here, you should know that by now! We can’t just go around scattering our junk everywhere and leaving fridge doors open. That ruins our food you know and it adds a lot of money to the electricity bill!”

Jared’s face seemed as if it was melting. He was frowning. He looked down at his half empty bowl and mumbled, “I’m sorry…”

Alex didn’t stop after this. He didn’t care that his brother had apologized, he just kept on going. “Haven’t you realized that things are going to be a lot harder here? You’re not even caring anymore! You’re eleven, you need to just grow up and be the older kid you’re supposed to be!”

Jared, who had kept his eyes on his bowl the whole time, looked up at Alex his eyes filled with tears. “I am trying…” he sniffled quietly.

Alex frowned and replied curtly, “No, you’re not.”

Jared broke into sobs and stammered, “I can’t help it that dad had to leave! I can’t help it that I’m younger than you and I forget about responsibility sometimes!”

Before Alex could respond, Jared threw his bowl onto the floor and ran off. Alex stayed where he was and stared silently at the plastic bowl upside down on the floor. A puddle of milk and cheerios was sinking into the carpet. Slowly, Alex walked back into the kitchen and pulled some paper towel off of the roll and cleaned up the mess. When he had dabbed up all the milk and scooped the soggy cheerios into the empty bowl, he carried it to the kitchen and dumped it into the trash, throwing the bowl into the sink. He then walked back to the family room and flicked off the television, which was still playing cartoons, and slumped onto the couch. He put his head into his hands and let out a long, deep sigh.

Why doesn’t he just listen? he thought, why can’t he try to be more responsible? He’s eleven, he has to learn to be supportive and help the family out. Now he’s in his room bawling like a baby and mom’s going to wake up soon and wonder what I did. I better go get him to stop crying so we don’t have to try to explain anything to mom.

Alex stood up slowly and stepped back into the kitchen. What he saw in the kitchen surprised him. His mother was standing at the stove, cooking eggs and bacon. Alex was so shocked that he just stood in the doorway staring. Lately his mother would come downstairs and rest her head on the table, just sitting there thinking about dad and wondering if he was safe. Alex’s heart skipped a beat as a sick feeling filled his stomach. Oh no…what if she’s already seen how upset Jared is?

“Um…good morning mom…” Alex said, unsure if he should speak at all.

“Good morning, honey. You’re up early,” his mother answered. She didn’t turn from the stove. “Would you go and wake up Jared please? Tell him breakfast is almost ready.”

Alex was filled with shock. What’s going on here? I normally get up this early…maybe she just hasn’t realized since dad left.

“Sure, mom.”

Alex jogged out of the room and up the stairs. As he trotted down to Jared’s room, he noticed something odd, the lights were off and the door was open. Alex stopped running and stood in the hallway, just staring blankly at the open room. Prying his feet from the floor, he sprinted the distance of the hallway and skidded into Jared’s room. His heart pounded as he spun in circles. The bed was empty, the closet was open, the dresser drawers were all pulled open and clothes and junk were scattered everywhere. Panicking, Alex dashed to the bed and flung all the covers off, but Jared wasn’t hiding there. He flopped down onto his stomach and peered under the bed, but Jared wasn’t there either. He jumped up and ran to the closet, which was startlingly empty. As Alex twisted and turned and threw things around looking for Jared, he saw a bright yellow paper taped to the dark blue wall. Alex made a beeline for it, ripping it down and reading it silently in his mind.

Alex, I’m sorry…I just can’t handle all of this responsibility. I need some fresh air and freedom. I’ve gone away. You can find me with Mr. Tumnus if you really desperately need me. Don’t tell mom where I’ve gone. Don’t tell her I’ve gone.

Jared

Alex crumpled the paper and threw it onto the floor. What am I gonna tell mom? Slowly, he walked from the room, carefully shutting the door behind him. His heart was pounding and his throat felt extremely dry as he climbed down the stairs. His shoes felt like they were filled with lead, and his tongue seemed like it was swelling. Beads of sweat were dripping down his forehead as he made his way to the kitchen. Quickly wiping the sweat off of his face, he stepped into the kitchen. His mom had laid three plates out on the table, with three glasses of orange juice and three apples. Steaming eggs covered the plates with bacon resting on a napkin near. His mother looked up as he walked into the room and stared past Alex as if Jared would come running in cheerfully. “Where’s Jared, honey?” she asked seriously.

Alex didn’t know what to say. He couldn’t just outright tell his mom that Jared had run away because of him, so he lied. “Jared wasn’t in his room, but he left a note saying that he decided to go to the park early to get some fresh air.”

His mother looked a little confused and then smiled, “Well, that’s good for him. You should have gone with him.”

Alex let out a sigh of relief. He then slumped into his chair, vowing that he would go fetch Jared after breakfast.

25 Days to go

If you have not already figured out, today is December first, starting my countdown to Christmas. At this time I officially have 25 days to go until Christmas. Here’s what I’m going to do each day until Christmas:

Every day I’m going to watch one Christmas movie and write about it on my blog. (Okay this might not work that well….but I’m going to try!)

I will post on my blog every day, counting down more and more. (I will attempt this. If I miss a day don’t get mad at me.)

Yeah…that’s about all I have to say….

Over and Out.
