Bible Quiz Team (continued)

Where did I leave off? I think I’m at number 3.

3. The Judge. This is what our set of buzzers is called. (Through the wiring it calculates who pressed the button first and it makes a buzzer sound.) There are eight buzzers attatched to each “Judge,” four on each side. There are 8 lights across the box that sits between the two teams. Four people from each team sit at the four seats on their teams side and pick up a buzzer. The lights are colored as such: four green and four red. The buzzers have a little button on the top of a handle that you push when you think you can finish the question and give the answer.

4. The questions. Each quiz has 20 questions in it, each question worth 20 points if you get it right. There are five extra questions at the end of the quiz, used if the quiz master messes up a question. The questions are one the verses that you are supposed to memorize. Here is an example: The verse I’m going to base this question off of is Hebrews 1:1.

Hebrews 1:1- God who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,

(This is NKJV btw.) Now an easy question for this verse would be:

Q: Who spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets?

A: God.

Easy? No. Actually, you can buzz in at any point in the question. You have thirty seconds to finish the question and give your answer. If you don’t, well then…you don’t get the points.

5. The scoring system. Each question that you or another member on your team answers correctly, your team is awarded twenty points. If you buzz in and answer the question wrong you get minus ten points. You can get a team bonus if three people on your team buzz in and get the answer correctly. The bonus is worth 10 points. If you get a foul, which is if you talk during the question or at a time you’re not supposed to, or if you make hand motions or mouth motions to any person on your team or the other team. The first foul your team gets is a warning, but the second one and so on, you get 10 points subtracted from your team.

6. Throwovers. Your team gets a throwover if the other team misses a question (gets it wrong.) The only way it can go to you is let’s say you’re sitting in the third seat and the person on the opposite team is sitting in the third seat and gets it wrong. (This process is slightly confusing.) If you get it correct then your team is awarded with 10 points. If not, then you remain at the same amount of points.

7. Quizzing out and getting frozen. Quizzing out means that you’ve buzzed in correctly as many times that is aloud. Then, you leave your seat at the table and return to where the subs are sitting at with your coach. The amount of correct buzzes aloud are five. If you quiz out with out getting any questions wrong, then your team is awarded with an extra ten points. Now, getting frozen, that’s a completely different matter. To get frozen, you have to answer three questions wrong. When you are frozen, you are not aloud to buzz or move from your seat. It is very sad when that happens.

8. The competitions. There are three quiz competitions a year, where your church (the quiz team, not the whole church) gets to drive to the location of the competition and compete against other churches’ quiz teams. The tournaments are round robin. Each team quizzes six times during the day to determine the winner. Two of the competitions are over the weekends and at the same place every year. Chicago in December and Michigan in April (sometimes March.) The biggest trip of the year is in June, and you go for a week. This year the trip is to Portland, Oregon, so we have to take a plane ride instead of a bus.

9. The fun. Quizzing is a lot of fun. The buzzing in, the interacting with your friends and other churches, the bus rides, and most of all, memorizing the material.

I hope you enjoyed.

Over and Out.
